SEO for electricians: found for the jobs, trusted for the certificate.
People rarely search for “an electrician”. They search for a rewire, a consumer unit upgrade, an EV charger, a landlord inspection or a fault that keeps tripping the power. And before they let anyone near their wiring, they want to know you are qualified and can certify the work. This page explains how local search works for electricians, domestic and commercial, and where to start.

Signs this applies to your electrical business.
- Your website says “all aspects of electrical work” and little else.
- You want more rewires or EV charger installs, but get mostly small call-outs.
- You do commercial work too, and nothing online shows it.
- Customers ask whether you are registered and can certify the job, and the website does not say.
- Competitors appear on the map for searches you would be ideal for.
By the job, not the trade.
Electrical searches tend to be specific. A homeowner worried about an older house wonders whether it needs rewiring and what that costs. A landlord needs an inspection report. A new car owner wants a home charger. A business owner needs lighting or power in a unit. Each of those is a different search with different questions behind it.
That makes electricians one of the trades where separate service pages tend to matter most. A single “services” page cannot answer a rewire customer and an EV charger customer at the same time.
Common electrical services with their own searches.
Only build pages for work you actually do and want more of. Each one should answer that customer’s questions.
Rewires
Customers ask whether their house needs one, what it costs, and how to prepare. A page that explains the signs, the process and the disruption answers all three.
Consumer units
Upgrades and replacements, often prompted by an inspection or an older fuse board. Customers want to know why it is needed and what certificate they get.
Inspections and testing
Electrical installation condition reports for homeowners, buyers and landlords. These searches often come with a deadline attached.
EV chargers
Home charger installation, a growing search with its own questions about suitability, location and cost.
Fault finding
Tripping circuits, dead sockets and flickering lights. Often urgent, often on a phone, and closer to the emergency side of the trade.
Commercial work
Shops, offices and units have different needs and different decision-makers. If you do this work, it deserves its own page.
The question behind every electrical search.
Electrical work is one of the few trades where customers know there are rules. Some work in homes has to meet Part P of the Building Regulations, which applies in England and Wales, and customers increasingly ask whether you can certify it. If you are registered with a competent person scheme, such as NICEIC or NAPIT, that belongs clearly on your website and in your profile description. If you are not, do not imply it.
Alongside registration, customers look for evidence: photos of tidy finished work, reviews that mention the job, and a plain explanation of what paperwork they will receive at the end.
Two customers, two kinds of page.
A homeowner choosing an electrician for a rewire and a facilities manager booking work in a unit ask different questions. The homeowner worries about mess, disruption and trust. The business customer worries about downtime, access, invoicing and compliance paperwork.
If you do both, separate pages let each find the one that fits. Areas with industrial estates and employment centres, such as Bridgend or Cwmbran in Torfaen, can make the commercial page especially worthwhile.
Specific services, real photos, steady reviews.
An electrician’s profile works best when the services list names the jobs customers search for, rather than “electrical services” on its own, and when the categories match the work you really do. Photos of real installations, consumer units and finished jobs show competence in a way stock images cannot. Reviews that mention specific jobs, such as a rewire or a charger, are especially persuasive. See Google Business Profile optimisation and Google review strategy.
Most electricians appear most strongly around their base, because distance from the searcher matters in the Map Pack. Clear service areas on the profile, and pages that cover the work you do in the towns you serve, such as across Cardiff, help customers further away see that you cover them.

The free audit checks your profile, website, listings, reviews and the electricians appearing for your searches, and gives you three fixes to start with.
The usual order.
- Profile categories and a specific services list.
- Separate pages for the main jobs you want, domestic and commercial.
- Your registrations and paperwork explained clearly, where they apply.
- A review routine after every job.
- Consistent details across directories and trade platforms you choose. See citation building.
What is needed from you: manager access to your profile, the jobs you want more of, whether you do commercial work, the schemes you are registered with, the areas you cover, and photos of real work.
By enquiries for the right jobs.
By calls and website clicks from your profile, where you appear across your area for the jobs you care about, and which searches each service page appears for in Search Console. The aim is more of the work you want, not just more calls. No position or number of enquiries is promised.
What this does not include
No claims of registrations you do not hold, no fake reviews, no invented project photos, and no legal advice about which work needs certifying.
Services electricians usually start with.

Common questions.
Should i list every type of electrical work on my profile?
List the services customers search for and that you want more of. A specific list helps Google match you to the right searches and helps customers see quickly whether you do their job.
Is it worth having an EV charger page?
If you install chargers and want more of that work, yes. It is a specific search with specific questions, and a dedicated page can answer them.
Do i need separate pages for domestic and commercial work?
If you do a meaningful amount of both, usually yes, because the customers and their questions are different.
