SEO for plumbers

SEO for plumbers: when urgency decides who gets the call.

When water is coming through a ceiling, nobody reads five websites. They search on their phone, look at the first few plumbers on the map, check who is open and ring. When the job is a new bathroom, they take their time. A plumbing business needs to be found in both moments, and the two need different things from your Google profile and your website.

Sound familiar?

Signs this applies to your plumbing business.

  • Emergency calls go to whoever appears first, and that is not always you.
  • Your Google profile hours say one thing and your phone says another.
  • You get calls about work you do not do, such as gas or boilers, and none about the work you want.
  • Your website has a single “plumbing services” page and a contact form.
  • Customers ask how much it will cost before you have even seen the job.
Two kinds of plumbing search

Emergency and planned work are different races.

Emergency searches, such as a burst pipe, a leak or a blocked toilet, are short, urgent and usually made on a phone. The customer wants someone close, open now and easy to ring. Questions people ask at this point include what counts as an emergency and what an emergency call-out should cost.

Planned searches, such as a bathroom installation, replacing a cylinder or moving pipework for a kitchen, are researched. The customer compares options, reads reviews and wants an idea of price and timescale before getting in touch.

The Map Pack does most of the work for emergencies. Your website pages do more of the work for planned jobs.

For emergency work

What matters in the moment of panic.

Accurate hours

Google shows customers whether you are open. If you take emergency calls out of hours, set your hours to match. If you do not, do not claim it: a customer who rings at night and gets no answer will not ring back.

A phone number that works

Tappable on a phone, the same everywhere online, and answered. A missed call for an emergency is usually a lost job.

A realistic service area

For emergencies, customers want someone nearby. Listing towns you cannot reach quickly brings calls you cannot take.

Distance from the searcher matters a great deal for this kind of search, so most plumbers appear most strongly around their base. A complete, active Google Business Profile with steady reviews is what helps you show up beyond the few streets closest to you.

For planned work

Pages that answer the questions first.

For bathrooms, installations and other planned jobs, customers want to understand the job before they call. A separate page for each main type of work can explain:

  • what the job involves, step by step;
  • what affects the price, even if an exact figure needs a visit;
  • how long it usually takes and how disruptive it is;
  • photos of finished work and reviews that mention it.

See service page SEO for how those pages are planned.

Be clear about what you do

Plumbing, heating and gas are not the same search.

Customers often use “plumber” for anything involving water, pipes or boilers. In law, though, all gas engineers must be on the Gas Safe Register. If you are registered and do gas work, say so clearly and show it. If you do not, say plainly that you do not, so you stop receiving calls you cannot take.

The same goes for drainage, heating and bathroom fitting. Your Google profile categories and services, and your website pages, should match the work you actually do and want more of.

Reviews for plumbers

The right reviews help the next panicked customer.

For emergency work, the reviews that persuade mention how quickly someone came, whether they turned up when they said, and whether the price matched what was agreed. For planned work, reviews that mention the type of job and the finish do more. A fair review routine, asking every customer at the end of the job, builds both over time.

Many plumbing businesses cover a city and the towns around it, for example Cardiff, Newport or the valley towns of Caerphilly. Reviews from customers across the area you serve show Google and customers that you really work there.

What AKVelora works on

The usual order.

  1. Profile hours, categories, services and service areas set to match how you really work.
  2. A clear, tappable phone number and consistent details across the web. See citation building.
  3. A review routine after every job.
  4. Separate pages for emergency work and for the planned jobs you want more of.

What is needed from you: manager access to your profile, your real hours and call-out policy, the jobs you want and do not want, the areas you cover, any registrations you hold, and photos of real work.

How progress is judged

Calls first.

For a plumbing business the clearest measure is calls. Google reports calls, website clicks and direction requests from your profile, and those sit alongside where you appear across your area on a grid of searches, and how your planned-work pages perform in Search Console. No position or call volume is promised.

What this does not include

No fake reviews, no claims of 24-hour cover you do not provide, no accreditations you do not hold, and no local offices that do not exist.

Questions

Common questions.

Should i say i am open 24 hours?

Only if you really answer and attend out of hours. Google shows customers whether you are open, and an unanswered emergency call loses the job and the customer’s trust.

Should i put prices on my website?

A full price list is often impossible, but explaining what affects the cost, and any call-out charge you have, helps customers decide to ring.

I do not do gas work. How do i stop getting boiler calls?

Make it clear on your profile services and your website what you do and do not cover, and avoid categories that suggest heating or gas work if you do not offer it.
