Areas we serve

One base in Cardiff. Eight areas served.

A customer ten minutes away can see a different set of businesses on Google Maps from the ones you see at your own door. This page explains why visibility changes from one area to the next, and what it means when AKVelora says it serves an area: one real base in Cardiff Bay, eight service areas, and no pretend local offices. Every project is run by me, from Cardiff.

Why area matters

Local search changes from one area to the next.

Google says its local results are based mainly on three things: relevance, distance and prominence. Distance means where the person searching is, compared with where your business is or the area it serves.

The other two are within your control. Relevance is how well your profile and website match what someone searched for. Prominence is how well known and well regarded the business is, which Google judges from things like reviews and information about you across the web. Neither depends on where you are, so both can be built up in every area you serve.

Distance is different. Search for the same thing in Cardiff Bay, in Pontypridd and in Cwmbran and the results can look quite different. A business that sits in the Map Pack in one town can be missing a few miles away. The competitors change too, and so do the words people use to search.

That is why each area gets looked at on its own terms, rather than repeating the same text with a different name on top.

The eight areas

Where i work most.

These are the eight areas listed as service areas on AKVelora’s Google Business Profile. Each one is its own search market, with its own towns and its own competitors, and each has its own guide above.

AKVelora also works with businesses outside these areas where the work is a good fit. The method is the same wherever your customers are. Get in touch to see whether it suits your business.

Checking your own area

How to see where you really show up.

Searching for your own business from your own phone is not a reliable test. Google personalises results and uses your location, so you mostly see how you rank where you are standing.

A better picture comes from checking the same search from many points across the area you serve. Rank tracking tools do this by running the search from a grid of locations and recording your position at each one. The result shows where you are strong, where you fade, and which competitors take your place.

Grid-based rank tracking is one of the ways AKVelora measures visibility in ongoing work, for the searches that matter to your business, in the area where you actually work.

Profile and website together

Service areas and area pages.

There are two places to tell Google where you work, and they should agree.

Your Google Business Profile lists your service areas, up to 20 of them. These are the places you travel to, and they should be places you really cover.

Your website can describe those areas properly, either on a single areas page or with individual area pages where there is enough to say. Read more about location page SEO and how to do it without creating near-identical pages.

Questions

Common questions.

Does AKVelora have offices in these areas?

No. AKVelora has one address, in Cardiff Bay. The eight areas are places the work covers, not places with an office.

Does it matter where my SEO consultant is based?

Not for your rankings. Google looks at your business, your profile and your website, not at where the person helping you works. Being based locally simply means knowing the local market well.

Can my business rank in a town where it has no premises?

In the ordinary search results, yes, with pages that properly cover that town. In the Map Pack it is harder, because distance from the searcher matters and listing a service area does not move your location on the map.

My business covers areas on this list and some outside it. Is that a problem?

No. The eight areas are where AKVelora works most, not a limit on where your customers can be.
