WordPress SEO

WordPress SEO for trade business websites.

Your website is built on WordPress, and someone set it up a while ago. You do not know whether the SEO plugin is configured, whether Google can see every page, or whether half the settings were left on their defaults. WordPress SEO means checking and setting up the parts of WordPress that affect search, so the platform helps your pages rather than quietly holding them back.

Sound familiar?

Common WordPress worries.

  • A web designer built the site and you have not logged in since.
  • There are several plugins installed and nobody remembers why.
  • Some pages do not seem to appear on Google at all.
  • The page titles in search results are not what you would choose.
  • The site feels slow, especially on a phone.
Why WordPress needs attention

Flexible, but full of settings.

WordPress powers a huge share of small business websites because it is flexible. That flexibility means the search-related settings are spread across WordPress itself, the theme, the page builder and a handful of plugins. Each one can be set up well or badly, and the defaults are not always right for a trade business.

AKVelora’s own website is built on WordPress, with a page builder, an SEO plugin and a caching plugin, so these are settings worked with every day rather than in theory.

What gets checked

The WordPress settings that affect search.

Search visibility setting

WordPress has a setting that asks search engines not to index the site. It is often switched on while a site is being built and sometimes never switched off.

The SEO plugin

Whether an SEO plugin such as Rank Math or Yoast is installed, configured properly, and not clashing with a second plugin doing the same job.

Titles and descriptions

Each important page with its own clear title and description, written for the customer, rather than a default pattern repeated on every page.

Leftover and thin pages

Sample pages, test posts, empty category and tag archives, author archives and media attachment pages that should not be competing for attention.

Sitemap and permalinks

One working XML sitemap listing the pages that matter, and readable page addresses rather than numbered ones.

Headings and structure

One main heading per page, sensible subheadings, and theme or page-builder settings that do not create duplicate headings.

Also checked

Speed, links and structured data.

  • Caching and images. Whether a caching plugin is set up, and whether huge image files are slowing pages down. Basic fixes are covered here; deep server work is a job for your host.
  • Internal links. Whether your services, area pages and contact page link to each other in a way that helps visitors and Google find them.
  • Structured data. Whether your SEO plugin or theme outputs schema for your business, and whether it is accurate and not duplicated. Structured data helps Google understand a page, but it does not guarantee any special display in results.
  • Google Search Console. Whether the site is connected and verified, so indexing problems are visible instead of hidden.
What changes

Configured properly, then left tidy.

Most WordPress SEO work is configuration rather than code: switching the right settings on and the wrong ones off, setting titles and descriptions, tidying what is indexed, fixing the sitemap and connecting Search Console. Every change is recorded, checked logged out after saving, and caches are cleared so you see what visitors see.

Where a fix needs real development work, such as changing a theme’s code or fixing a broken plugin, that is said plainly, so you can take it to your web developer or host.

What is needed from you

Access, and a backup.

An administrator login for WordPress, or a separate account created for the work, and confirmation that your host takes regular backups. If someone else manages the site, their contact details, so changes can be coordinated. You keep full ownership of the site.

What this does not do

AKVelora is not a custom development agency. This work does not include building new themes, writing plugins, migrating hosts or redesigning the site. It covers the SEO side of WordPress, done properly.

How progress is judged

Visible in Search Console.

By the pages Google reports as indexed in Search Console, the removal of leftover pages that should not be there, clean titles and descriptions in search results, and fewer errors in Search Console’s reports. Indexing changes are Google’s decision and take time, so they are checked over weeks.

Indexing problems that go beyond WordPress settings are covered by technical SEO support, a separate service.

Questions

Common questions.

My site is not on WordPress. Can you still help?

The local SEO services apply to any website. This page is specifically about WordPress, because so many trade business websites are built on it.

Which SEO plugin should i use?

Either of the main options works well when it is configured properly. The important thing is having one, set up correctly, rather than two doing the same job.

Will you change my website’s design?

No. WordPress SEO work focuses on settings, titles, structure and indexing. Design changes are a separate decision.

Is it safe to make these changes on a live site?

With a recent backup and careful, recorded changes, yes. Each change is checked after saving, and anything risky is discussed first.

My site uses a page builder. Is that a problem for SEO?

Not in itself. Page builders can produce heavier pages and stray headings if they are set up carelessly, so the checks look at speed and heading structure. Used well, a page builder site can perform perfectly well in search.
